Youth Ambassadors

Youth Ambassadors 2008 Schedule of Events    

 

             The Youth Ambassadors of Caroline, sponsored by Caroline’s Promise and Caroline High School guidance department, shall consist of Caroline High School Students, and representatives from Caroline Middle School as its core membership. Members will elect an executive committee to lead the body of Ambassadors. The Coordinator of Caroline’s Promise, High School Guidance Counselors, Sponsor Teachers, and Community Representatives will serve on the Advisory Council for the Youth Ambassadors.

             The purpose is to provide an opportunity for Caroline County Youth to acquire a greater knowledge and appreciation for our community and the democratic society through active participation in social, educational, cultural, and recreational activities designed to promote community awareness, acceptance, and personal growth.

 

             The Youth Ambassadors will serve the youth of Caroline through active listening to their needs and demonstrating action by:

· Informing Caroline’s Promise of the needs and wishes of the youth

· Following governmental procedures to bring issues forward to governing bodies within the county

· Developing action plans to bring resolution to determined needs

 

             To provide Caroline County youth with immediate ways to engage in active opportunities to serve others in an ongoing way.


             The Youth Ambassadors will meet twice a month at Caroline High School on the 2nd and last Mondays of the month. At these required meetings, the membership will participate in group building activities to promote communication, responsibility, personal, professional, and social skills led by members of the Advisory Council.  The group will also plan the upcoming service projects, etc. The meetings will last from 2:45-5:00 pm and light foods will be served. The school activity buses will be available for transportation, if necessary.


             Youth Ambassadors of Caroline (YAC) must be willing to sign a code of conduct and responsibility. Members must abide by the school’s code of conduct. Infractions during school hours to the code of conduct will be reviewed monthly by the High School Guidance Dept. and may result in review by the Advisory Council.

            

             YAC members will hold elections to select students to hold positions of President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Publicist. The YAC will pass motions and resolutions as necessary by a majority vote. A majority vote is defined as one vote more than one-half of the voting members who are present.

 

Responsibility and Authority:

1. Each Youth Ambassador must memorize and dedicate themselves to the advancement of  Caroline’s 5 Promises.

2. Each Youth Ambassador must attend and actively participate in at least 80% of YAC meetings and service projects.

3. Each Youth Ambassador must complete at least 15 hours of community service each semester. These hours cannot be used in connection to requirements for service hours from any other organization or church.

4. There are no distinct academic regulations to being a Youth Ambassador. It is the individual’s personal attitude and desire to serve others that qualifies him/her for Ambassadorship. These young persons must demonstrate ongoing responsibility, ability to work within a group, willingness to serve, and a determination to fulfill commitments. Members may be nominated or may submit applications. Members and continued membership will be determined by the Advisory Board.


Benefits to Membership:

1. Members will develop community pride, spirit and awareness. The YAC strives to develop hearts for service within its membership.

2. Each senior who is in good standing as an Ambassador (i.e., has completed required service hours and attendance percentage) will wear a green cord representing Caroline’s Promise upon graduation. A double gold cord will be added for additional years of service.

3. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a deserving senior during awards ceremony.

4. Each member will receive one free pass to be used at one athletic event during the school year.

5. Caroline’s Promise t-shirts will be given and members will be pinned with a service wagon when promises are memorized.

6. Members will be recognized at School Board and Board of Supervisor Meetings. College letters will be issued.

7. Members will get to design an Ambassador emblem to go on new t-shirts, or clothing items.

8. A summer celebration will be planned.
